The joint degree option (JD/LLM) is for students who have a genuine interest and aptitude for tax and want to develop expertise to improve chances of working in a particular area such as business organizations and transactions, estate planning and wealth management, or international tax. This option is open to both Miami Law students and to students at other law schools.Joint JD/LLM Program
The Joint JD/LLM option is available to students from the University of Miami School of Law who must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.00 and at least a "B" in Federal Income Tax. Students who are enrolled at other law schools and wish to apply to the Joint JD/LLM Program must have a minimum GPA of 3.00 and earned at least a "B" in Federal Income Tax. They must also submit a letter from their home school dean confirming that Miami Law's program credits will be accepted for transfer toward their JD degree. A separate admissions committee will review their application and determine eligibility to enter the JD program. The admissions committee takes into consideration the nature of, and grade point average in, classes taken by the applicant while enrolled in the LLM program.Miami Law Students

The joint degree program (JD/LLM) offers the opportunity to earn both degrees in only seven semesters, saving time and tuition money over earning the degrees separately. JD/LLM students are only allowed to take one JD course while completing the LLM. Miami Law JD students may apply to the LLM Program during fall or spring of their 2L year, but before the end of the spring semester of the second year. Current Miami Law Taxation LLM students should submit an application for admission to the JD program during the Fall semester of their LLM studies and no later than November 1. It is recommended that students discuss their intention to apply to the JD program with their LLM program director early on in their LLM studies to make sure their course selection enables them to complete all graduation requirements effectively.
