Admission Standards

The University of Miami School of Law seeks to enroll highly qualified students who will thrive in a collegial and academically rigorous environment and become the next generation of leaders, public servants, and successful practitioners. Miami Law engages in a highly individualized, holistic review of each applicant's file to determine how the applicant will contribute to the law school community and the applicant’s likelihood of academic and professional success. We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, evaluating such factors as educational history; standardized test scores; cumulative undergraduate grade point average; evidence of strong writing and analytical skills; and rigor of undergraduate institution and major. We also seek students who demonstrate a broad range of experiences and perspectives, considering professional background; public service engagement; leadership; strength of character; and extracurricular activities. Miami Law is committed to enrolling a diverse student body and encourages applications from members of all underrepresented groups.

Important Application Dates and Deadlines for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

  • September 1, 2023 - JD application open date
  • November 3, 2023 - Binding Early Decision Program deadline
  • December 2023 - FAFSA becomes available
  • January 15, 2024 - JD priority application deadline
    Note: Applications received after this date will continue to be accepted and reviewed on a seat-available basis until July 15, 2024.
  • February 1, 2024 - FAFSA priority application deadline
  • July 15, 2024 - JD application deadline

Binding Early Decision Program

The Binding Early Decision Program is for applicants who have decided that the University of Miami School of Law is their top choice for law school. To apply, candidates must (1) submit a completed JD application through the LSAC website, (2) indicate interest on the application form, and (3) submit the Binding Early Decision Program Agreement no later than November 3, 2023. Applicants will be notified of their admission and scholarship offer, if any, no later than November 20, 2023.

Ways to Apply to the JD Program

1) Applying Electronically (Preferred Method)

Miami Law's electronic application is available as part of an applicant's LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) registration. All applicants are required to register for CAS. This easy and efficient option allows applicants to work on and save an application until it is ready for electronic submission.

2) Applying by Hard Copy

Although applying electronically through LSAC is the preferred method by which to apply, Miami Law will accept hard copy applications. Candidates who prefer to submit a paper application should email admissions@law.miami.edu.
